DATE: Saturday, April 1

TIME: 12:00pm - 3:00pm

Join us as we welcome Anjou winemaker Eric Morgat to the shop for a special winemaker tasting & sale featuring 5 truly memorable Chenin Blanc wines!
Eric Morgat comes from a long tradition of cultivating the unique terroirs of Anjou.

Building on a winemaking heritage that dates back over two hundred years, Morgat took five hectares under his stead at the ambitious young age of 25.

Certified organic in 2007, the estate’s soils remain undisturbed, without manipulation from manure, herbicides, or any chemical products. Aside from the cultivation of specific flowers to nurture the land, the vines are allowed to grow in peaceful unity in Anjou’s base of volcanic rock and Savennieres’ regal schist.

Not surprisingly given his commitment to quality, Morgat produces only two cuvées—the youthful yet complex Anjou Litus, and the rich, powerful Savennieres Fides—both 100% Chenin Blanc and from the greater region of Anjou.

This Saturday, Eric will be pouring and talking about multiple vintages of each cuvée.

This is a rare opportunity to hear from a talented winemaker about how different seasons and vineyards can produce startlingly distinct wines from the same grape in the same region.

See below for more details on the line-up Eric will be pouring, including tasting notes and special pricing.

Eric Morgat Anjou Litus 2012

The 2012 Anjou Blanc “Litus” from Eric Morgat, which is barrel-fermented, like all of his wines, shows just a touch of vanilla in its aromatic constellation of quince, tangerine, chalky soil tones, a bit of bee pollen, white flowers and that dollop of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, primary and impressively powerful in personality for the 2012 vintage, with a superb core, brisk acids, fine focus and a very long, soil-driven and nascently complex finish. Truly exceptional young Anjou Blanc for such a vintage as 2012! (Drink between 2016-2035)

Eric Morgat Anjou Litus 2013

The citrus-yellow 2013 Anjou Litus offers a clear, intense and elegant bouquet of ripe and concentrated yellow-fleshed fruits intertwined with yeasty and subtle mineral flavors. Very elegant and vital on the palate, this is a pure and mineral Chenin with a slatey purity and vibrant finesse. The finish is piquant, very pure and indicates a wine that is on its way. Whereas the 2014 is already accessible, the 2013, of which just 1970 bottles have been produced due to strict selections, is tension-filled and more edgy; it will benefit from further bottle age. The wine, whose vitality, finesse and grip is really remarkable, was bottled in December 2014.

Eric Morgat Savennieres Fides 2012

Bright yellow. Charming, fragrant yellow apple and delicate floral nuances on the nose are almost reminiscent of Chablis. Tantalizingly spicy and juicy, with a firm texture at the core of this Chenin Blanc’s herbal richness. Apricot, white peach and white pepper rise at the back of the palate of this still austere but very persistent wine.

Eric Morgat Savennieres Fides 2013

Bright yellow. Subtle aromas of yellow apple, tobacco, cantaloupe, white pepper and caraway seed. Concentrated and complex on the palate, with enticing freshness and a velvety texture to the honeyed pear flavor. A vibrant sweetness lingers on the crushed-slate finish. Morgat has plots in Roche aux Moines and other less familiar sites, but now blends all of his parcels into a single Savennières named Fidès. This chenin blanc was tasted from barrel.

Eric Morgat Savennieres Fides 2014

A unique oppurtnity to taste a newly released vintage with the winemaker! An assemblage of 4 of the most beautiful terroirs in Savennieres, mostly on schist. Fidès harkens back to a noble, monastic austerity. Powerful, rich, almost tannic, this enormous effort is also graced with a hint of a lovely prolonged saline bitterness.
